During the 19th century Dublin whiskey became globally recognised as the premier whiskey of the world. Some of the largest and most formidable distilleries of the time emerged from smaller operations in Dublin’s Liberties, the area become synonymous with great Irish Whiskey and Dublin’s “Liquid Gold”. At one point The Liberties housed 37 distilleries and the remains of many of these lost distilleries can still be seen today.
Fast forward two hundred years and a new dawning in Dublin Whiskey production has begun. Construction is well under way at Teeling HQ in Newmarket, Dublin 8, the first operational distillery to open in Dublin in over 125 years. Our “Spirit of Dublin” hoarding showcases some of Dublin’s most iconic features and we hope you’ll agree will inject some colour and character into the site over the coming months!!
Two massive cranes have taken residence on site to help with the construction of the visitor centre, which is due to open it’s doors to the public and would be whiskey-enthusiasts early next year.
The Teeling Whiskey distillery will have the capacity to produce 500,000 litres of whiskey on an annual basis and will consist of three traditional copper pot stills reviving the traditional style of the old Dublin distilleries. The visitor centre will become a true Dublin destination; providing an experiential journey into the history of Teeling Whiskey, the whiskey heritage of the Liberties, the unique Dublin whiskey distilling process and whiskey tasting.
Our wooden fermenters and pot stills are nearing completion and awaiting imminent departure to our shores so things are definitely starting to take shape at the Teeling Whiskey Distillery!
