The year is 1878, and although the titans of Dublin Whiskey are still thriving, dark clouds are on the horizon. One of the major threats to the entire industry is looming – the dawn of column, or continuous distillation – a modern process that allows for vast improvements efficiency and purity improvements compared Dublin’s traditional copper pot stills of old. Rather than embracing these new methods, Dublin’s 4 leading distilleries are enraged and join together to express their indignation, laid out, in what was to become a seminal piece of Dublin Whiskey history, “Truths about Whisky” – their manifesto against the evils of the “Silent Spirit”.

Available in a limited edition reprint – “Truths about Whisky” is now available in the Teeling Distillery gift shop with an in-depth introduction from world renowned Whisk(e)y industry adviser and expert Ian Buxton – putting this historic document in the context of the opening of Teeling Whiskey Distillery, the first new distillery in Dublin in over 125 years.

“Truths about Whisky” is available for €30 in our gift shop which is open from 10am – 5.30pm daily in the heart of Dublin’s historic Liberties at 13-17 Newmarket Square, Dublin 8.
