It’s National Whiskey Sour Day!

We think this drink represents our neighbourhood in liquid form. The Liberties is bitter sweet, dark and smoky, rich with porter and full of whiskey. And the drink’s not bad either! It’s National Whiskey Sour Day and with the weekend stretching out ahead of us why not indulge in one of our favourite cocktails to celebrate?

The Liberties Sour – Kevin Hurley, Global Brand Ambassador

40ml Teeling Small Batch
20ml Draught Guinness
20ml Lapsang Souchon Tea Syrup (see appendices)
10ml Fresh Lime Juice
20ml Egg White
3 dashes Angostura Bitter
1 dash Chocolate Bitters
Suggested Glassware: Sour Glass

Add all ingredients to cocktail shaker with ice and shake vigorously
for 10-12 seconds. Strain off the ice and dry shake without ice for 10
seconds (reverse dry shake method). Garnish with Angostura bitters
on top.

Lapsang Souchong Tea Syrup
Ingredients (makes approx. 1.5L of syrup)
1L Water
1kg of Demerara Sugar
50g Loose Lapsang Souchong Tea.

Combine all ingredients in a pot, bring to simmer and allow to infuse
for 4/5 minutes ensuring all the sugar is dissolved. Strain out spent
tea and store syrup.

Lapsang, an ancient and much loved black tea originating from the Wuyi
Mountains, China, is renowned for its distinctly smoky flavour, derived from
being dried over smoky pine fires.
